A 74-year-old man lost 1.22 lakh while trying to renew his Netflix subscription.

The scammers pretended to be Netflix and tricked the man into sharing his bank details through a carefully fabricated email.

The email said that his Netflix account was on hold over a non-payment of 499rs. Without thinking twice, the man clicked the payment link and entered all his details.

Even when the OTP was generated, he authorized the payment, without realizing that it was for 1.22 lakhs!

Some takeaways from such incidents:

- You should never share your bank OTP with anybody. No company will ask you to share these details via email.

- Always check the email address to verify that it's valid company mail.

- Pay attention to the transaction amount in the OTP SMS.

- Before entering your payment details, check the URL that the email is redirecting you to.

- Scammers usually go for people who aren’t tech-savvy. So it's important to educate our family and friends about this
